Review for Love and the Outcome’s Self-Titled Debut Release on Word Records

Artist: Love and the Outcome
Title: ‘Love and the Outcome’

Overall Album Vibe:

The husband and wife singing duo of vocalist Jodi King and bass player/vocalist Chris Rademaker left everything behind in 2010, including their country and home to set out on the road to follow their dream with only each other and their faith. The Canadian couple’s musical road trip that followed had them crisscrossing Canada along with trips to Liberia, the Philippines and China.

The 11-songs that make up their debut album recalls both the highs and lows the couple experienced during their journey.

The duo signed to Word Records in 2012 and headed to a retreat in the mountains of Washington to record their debut album that was co-produced by an all-star lineup including Seth Mosley (Newsboys), Ben Glover (for KING & COUNTRY), David Garcia (TobyMac) and Jeff Pardo (Matthew West).

When asked about their hopes for the album band vocalist Jodi King said, “We want to inspire people to follow Jesus.” Continuing on, “We want these songs to become a lifestyle, and hope that the truth of these songs goes beyond the thrill of the live show to plant a seed in people’s hearts: to go for the things that they might be afraid to go for and join this joyful revolution. That’s the whole point. A life that requires faith is worth living, and a life on the edge is one where you live hand-in-hand and arm-in-arm with God. That’s what we’re living for.”

The album starts off with the up-tempo rocker, “When We Love,” that offers up shared lead vocals from the duo with lyrics about being good stewards of our faith, having a heart for service to others, putting it into action by reaching out to those in need.

The lead single from the album, “He is with Us,” has been charting very well. The pop/rock song talks about those times when your faith gets a little shaken that you can rest in the knowledge that God is always there for you.

Other standout tracks include the worshipful, “City Of God,” that talks about no matter whether you live in China or New York City that we are all brothers and sisters in God’s City. The piano lead track, “The Story You’re Building in Me,” deals with how we need to cherish and live each moment in our life. The song tells the story of the duo including happy moment like when the couple got married to dealing with the death of Chris Rademaker’s mother after her long difficult battle with cancer.

The album also closes strong with the mid-tempo track, “What a Promise,” that deals with God’s eternal promise to never leave us.

On their self-titled debut release Canadian husband and wife duo Love and the Outcome really hit the mark musically with songs that cruise along like a fine tuned Ferrari with uplifting lyrics filled with God’s hope, promise, and grace.
