Title: ‘Second Coming’
Overall Album Vibe: Without a doubt Stryper can be included in any conversation of bands that brought Christian music to the mainstream. I’m old enough to remember when they were the first openly Christian band to have a video played on MTV (back when MTV was the place to go to find out about hot new bands).
Since the 1980’s the band has been putting out their glam hard rock/metal brand of music that features soaring vocals and stabbing twin guitars attack with the occasional soft piano ballad added into the mix.
Stryper’s latest release, ‘Second Coming (Frontiers Records),’ offers up brand new recordings of fourteen of classic songs from their first EP, “The Yellow and Black Attack”, the follow up “Soldiers Under Command” and “To Hell With the Devil” along with two new songs recorded especially for the new release.
I was a fan of the band when they were ripping it up for the Lord back in the 80’s/90’s and listening to ‘Second Coming,’ brought back some really good memories. Both of the two new tracks found on the release, “Bleeding From Inside Out” and “Blackened” continues the band’s honored position as heavy hitters in the hard rock/metal music scene.
When he was asked about the new release Stryper frontman Michael Sweet said that, “We’re really excited this record. The re-recorded songs are sounding awesome! Better than the originals in many ways!! One word to describe the record? Heavier. We’re hooked up with some great people – we’ve got new management, a great album, a great label. We just feel like everything is coming together, and hopefully some big things are to follow.”
Standout Tracks: “Loud N’ Clear”, “Makes Me Wanna Sing”, “The Rock That Makes Me Roll”, “To Hell with the Devil”, “Calling on You”, “Blackened”
